SXSW 2008 is upon us

I can’t believe it, but it’s that time of year again. At this very moment thousands of web geeks are descending on Austin from around the globe. Be sure and say hello if you run into me.
If you’re in town today, come join members of Refresh Austin for pints at The Gingerman. [...]

Recap: SXSWi Austin Mixer at Mohawk

Well, I just got back from this evening’s SXSW Mixer for Austin. Overall it was good times and only the slightest prelude to the frenzy of parties that is SXSW.
I was able to hang out with fellow Refresh Austin members (Alex Jones, Tim Thompson, Grant Hutchins, Justin Perkins), former Statesman.com coworkers (Nick Welp, Wendy [...]

Austin360 interviews Roland Swenson about SXSW’s battle with day-parties

“Knowing that our continued existence is far from guaranteed makes us willing to fight (when we can) what we see as damaging to SXSW. The struggle is over who is ultimately going to control SXSW, our organization or guerrilla marketers backed by corporate interests. If SXSW loses, then SXSW eventually disappears. SXSW exists only because [...]

SXSWi 2007 wrap-up

.entry img {margin: 3px;}
In a word: Awesome.
I met new great people and hung out with people I already knew were great. I’m still exhausted. I slept so little and drank so much each night! In fact, just by listing all of the evening events I somehow crawled to below, I realize that I must’ve drank [...]

Austin360’s SXSW side-party guide & tools

Disclaimer: I work for the Austin American-Statesman; provider of Statesman.com and Austin360.com. Congratulatory praise goes to the Austin360 editorial staff and my coworker Ginny Min for their work and quick turnaround.
Tonight Austin360 unveiled their newest SXSW guide to day parties and side events separate from the main conference offerings. If you’re smart [...]

Google Transit partners with CapMetro

The latest creation to come out of Google Labs has partnered with our own Capital Metro just in time to provide much needed guidance to all the out-of-towners in Austin for SXSW wanting to know which bus to take to get from the Alamo South Lamar to 6th street and then to Magnolia’s.
Try it here! [...]

Austinist unveils guide and planner to SXSW parties!

For those in the know, SXSW day parties and media mixers are where it’s at. Paying absurd amounts of money to get a wristband only to wait in line to see the handful of bands you can actually make it to still doesn’t make sense to me. Plus, some people have jobs! This year [...]

Finally! SXSW reveals 2007 music acts

SXSW unveils first list of performers
SXSW finally got around to releasing the first peek at this year’s lineup for the annual music festival.
Plus… Public Enemy, Ozmalati, Mastodon, Against Me!, the Riverboat Gamblers and more are set to play free shows at Auditorium Shores.

SXSW 2007 Band List Update: Over 500 acts still in the rumor mill

SXSW is still holding back it’s 2007 band list.
Luckily there are concerned individuals who tirelessly fill the gap.
I’m most excited about Ghostland Observatory, Riverboat Gamblers, Bloc Party, The Black Angels, & Interpol among others… if only I considered a wristband a worthwhile purchase.
